A word to the wise

Microsoft to Increase Prices from 1st April 2023

Due to the dollar’s continued fall in recent years against the Pound and the Euro, in what Microsoft call “price harmonisation”, it has been confirmed that Microsoft will be aligning the pricing of their Cloud products and services (for example Microsoft 365) by introducing consistent global pricing.

How much are prices increasing?

Prices are increasing by +9% GBP and +11% EUR.

The price change will take affect from the 1st April. Moving forwards, this is something that Microsoft will assess twice yearly to maintain the alignment and consistency of global prices with the US Dollar.

What prices are changing?

It’s worth noting that this latest increase only relates to the Microsoft Commercial Cloud products such as Microsoft 365. This increase does NOT affect Azure prices as they are already aligned globally. Any existing orders that are subject to price protection will NOT be affected until the end of their subscription term.

“In the future, Microsoft will assess pricing in local currency as part of a regular twice-a-year cadence, taking into consideration currency fluctuations relative to the USD.

This will provide increased transparency and predictability for customers globally and move to a pricing model that is most common in our industry.

The Microsoft Cloud continues to be priced competitively, and Microsoft remains deeply committed to the success of its customers and partners.”

Thoughts and Actions

While a price increase is never good news, this is a good time to do some “housekeeping” to keep licences and costs in check.

For example:

  • Check if you need the tier of licence you are using. Do you need the same licences for everyone?
  • Check 3rd party duplicate products you can displace (and use the services included in your Microsoft 365 subscription)

If you’d like to book a licence review or if you have any questions about the above, please fill in the form below.
